Waching Journal Soundtracks Aug 23rd

The Marvels (2023)

Unlike other MCU, The Marvels has pure orchestra-like soundtracks.  When I watched the movie for the first time, I thought it sounded like the 90’s, could be scientific fiction like Star Wars or could be old James Bond (before Daniel Craig).   Actually it worked well.  The whole picture is kind of like an old space movie which implies the longer relationship of Carol and Nick than any other characters.  All compositions are super worth learning.  It doesn’t have to be hybrid boomers to create a space fantasy.   The soundtracks are produced by Laura Karpman

FBI (TV series) (2018-)

Flavoring an atmosphere of Law & Order, FBI screens stories of serious human suspense drama.  The soundtracks have the same taste, thrilling, heavy weighted so that they never ruin the story and picture. I felt like watching a kind of Gotham City film, maybe because of the view of New York city.  The most interesting sound to me is the ping-pong delay effects, which are often heard in many scenes.  The soundtracks are produced by Atli Örvarsson

Departure (TV series) (2019-2021)

Suspense drama with a new angle, 3 seasons of Departure are exciting to watch, worth learning soundtracks. (also great for learning British accents!  I’m still on the way!)  Every season has a critical heavy accident on transportation at the beginning of the story, where the title comes from.  A lot of sounds come into the scene, explosions, screaming, hitting something, etc… And after the disaster, we’re all in sorrow and grief.  In the meantime, the main characters have to stand up and fight. The soundtracks play a nice supporting role throughout the drama.  Christopher Plummer is starring in an important role and that was his last shooting for a TV series.  The soundtracks are produced by Keith Power.
