Expend4bles (2023)
The newest film of The Expendables franchise, Expend4bles released last year. It’s been a while since The Expendables 3 in 2014, many things changed. Directors have changed all 4 films however, the producers team slightly changed, Sly left from writers team, and the composer changed (which is the main issue here!). Arnold and Jet also left. It looks like a rejuvenation of the series apparently, villains, the actions, shooting and editing are updating too.
I thought this film is not much like Stallone’s but others. I don’t know the right answer yet. The soundtracks are produced by Guillaume Roussel. I have watched it twice but not many tunes I noticed from the soundtracks.
By the way, the rest of the franchise soundtracks are produced by Bryan Tylor. They are iconic soundtracks for the authentic massive action films. I have watched these three films over and over. Sly was young, the stories are much more dangerous, and have a much more flavor of heroic courage. What I like the most about this movie is that Bryan’s tracks are perfectly matched in every scene, and which means the composer knows the actors perfectly what they think and what they act. I know Sly and Bryan have history so that they are tight together. Not many creators can have such a great opportunity.Please take what I thought with a grain of salt, I still don’t have the answer for which is better, renewal or stay retro.
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (TV series) (2018-2023)
Tom Clancy’s fictional character Jack Ryan has a history. Many great actors played the role in films and TV shows from 1990 to 2023. It seems like James Bond, but Jack’s titles are different in every story so that we can always enjoy the story. This TV series is pretty much outstanding because of the length of the story. They got more deeply dramatic, criminal, political, spy action, thriller kind of that. Now the development of the streaming video market can provide a great opportunity to film the series of best sellers novels like, Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch, Lee Child’s Jack Reacher. The soundtracks are produced by Ramin Djawadi. The stories are going very serious in tension, all sounds are heavily coming along with the context. Hybrid Orchestra with a lot of ethnic instruments combined make the films much more modern. All tracks are pretty outstanding and completely fit to this top grade drama series.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
Nothing like escaping the IMAX theater experience, especially superhero films. They’re literally away from an ordinary life because of its visual effect and maximum sound. It’s also important for film composers to keep up with the current. It’s far different from your studio speakers, isn’t it?
The movie is the DCU series, following Aquaman (2018), great time to see his serious character who is always a little off-beat in other DCU. Jason Momoa is such a talented actor who provides both gentle and wild, heroic and evil. As close as his character, this story goes like a fantastic disaster upon the fear of nature. The Soundtracks for both films are produced by Rupert Gregson-Williams, same as Aquaman. All tracks are gorgeous, magnificent and divine.
